INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION FOR MULTI-STOREY FACTORIES AT PHUOC DONG INDUSTRIAL PARK & PORT: A PIONEERING STEP TOWARD NEW INDUSTRIAL STANDARDS
For the first time in Vietnam, an international design competition for a multi-storey factory complex has been organized at Phuoc Dong Industrial Park & Port, opening a new approach to industrial park development – where architecture, operations, and investment efficiency converge.
Amid the continuous transformation of the industrial sector, hosting an international design competition in the factory segment is a rare initiative. At Phuoc Dong Industrial Park & Port, however, this is not merely a professional exercise, but a long-term strategy to enhance production space quality and strengthen competitiveness.
The competition attracted 14 domestic and international design consultancies. Following a rigorous selection process, 8 teams advanced to the in-depth evaluation round, with the top 3 proposals shortlisted for the final. The jury panel comprised leading experts in architecture, urban planning, and industrial development, ensuring both technical excellence and practical feasibility.
Three Finalists – Three Distinct Approaches
The three finalist proposals represent different perspectives on the multi-storey factory model:
- Scheme H786: Focuses on flexibility in spatial organization
- Scheme D801: Emphasizes integrated systems and comprehensive amenities
- Scheme C025: Highlights operational efficiency and a modern industrial model
During the final round, critical issues were thoroughly examined, including traffic flow organization, implementation feasibility, and investment cost optimization. These discussions underscored a key reality: a strong concept must go beyond design – it must deliver practicality and long-term efficiency.
With a planned development scale of up to 1 million sqm of factory space, Phuoc Dong Industrial Park & Port is oriented toward building an integrated industrial ecosystem, seamlessly connecting manufacturing, port operations, and logistics. This is not merely infrastructure development – it represents a transition toward a modern, sustainable, and globally competitive industrial model.
From a single competition, a new direction is taking shape. From design proposals, new standards are being defined. Phuoc Dong Industrial Park & Port is not just building factories – it is contributing to shaping the future of industrial parks in Vietnam.
